DB2Excel problem with consensus data
1. Basic information about DB2Excel problem with consensus data
DB2Excel
is a process that brings a company's data from the Valuatum's database
to a Valuatum Excel model. Unfortunately we currently have a bug in the
system, which brings some addition figures to excel when running
DB2Excel with the consensus estimates. These additional figures are
quartel level net financials and taxes of 2008. This is problem because
if there are quarter level estimates, they are considered more accurate
than the year level estimates and therefore they override them.
2. How does the problem present itself? The
2008 taxes will be completely incorrect: normally there's a small and
positive figure. Because of the quarter figures that override full year
estimates the 2008 taxes will be calculated only with net financials.
If they are for example -1 million per quarter the pre-tax profit
will be the same -1 million and then the taxes will be -1*-0.26=0.26
millions each quarter. Therefore the taxes will be completely incorrect. This
problem occurs only when using the consensus data and only the year
Y+1, where Y is the current year. So in 2007 the problem occurs only
2008.
3. How to fix the problem?
Problem is very easy to fix in Excel Model:
Delete the figures that are causing problems. They can be found in the I-divQ sheet quarterly income statement; more accurately in the columns AH-AK in rows 133 and 136. Now there shouldn't be any figures in the 2008 quarter level and the full year figures are dominating again - Problems should disappear. If there are also some other figures in columns AH-AK, you can delete them also. In case the problems still continue, contact Valuatum.
